Regional Event Attracts Over 5,000 Spectators While Raising Money for Autism Speaks®

Minneapolis, MN – April 18, 2007 – The world's most famous hot dog eating contest will once again be held in the Midwest, searching for a finalist to participate in the highly-anticipated International Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, New York on July 4, 2007. Sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive Eating, this year marks the 91th installment of the Nathan's Famous worldwide competition.

Beginning at high noon on Saturday, June 16, 2007, the world's most famous hot dog restaurant will unite with America's largest mall to bring together the finest eaters who will face off in the Rotunda at Mall of America, vying for one of the coveted seats at the New York event that draws over 30,000 spectators from around the world and is broadcast live on ESPN with a one hour television event that continues to entertain and fascinate viewers.

"Last year we held the first Midwest regional hot dog eating contest at Mall of America and the excitement has not stopped! We've gotten inquiries ever since about this year's event and the anticipation just keeps building as the day nears," said Chaney Opperman, owner of Nathan's at Mall of America. "This year we're planning even more fun, excitement, and tradition for Minnesotans and global visitors as they partake in history," adds Opperman.

Participation in a regional competition, such as the one at Mall of America, is the only way to secure one of the prized 20 seats in the Independence Day contest. Last year's winner at the Mall of America ate 38 hot dogs with buns in just 12 minutes and placed fourth at the international event on Coney Island. The winner of the Midwest contest will receive the Nathan's Mall of America Championship Belt and an all-expense paid trip to New York to participate in the finals on Coney Island where they will compete against the world's most notable eaters for the coveted Mustard Yellow International Belt, competitive eating's greatest prize, akin to the Master's green jacket of golf or football's Vince Lombardi trophy.

"Last year's hot dog eating competition drew over 5,000 visitors to the mall's rotunda and the momentum is building for this year's event! We're excited to partner with Nathan's again to offer our guests another chance to experience the most popular and intriguing competitive eating event in the world," said Dan Jasper, director of public relations at Mall of America."

To add to the excitement, Nathan's and Build-A-Bear Workshop® at Mall of America are partnering to raise money for Autism Speaks, an organization dedicated to finding a cure for autism, the fastest growing neurological disorder diagnosed in three children each hour, with one in every 150 children suffering its' devastating effects. Starting in May, Nathan's at Mall of America will donate proceeds from the purchase of an official Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest tiny tee shirt for a Build-A-Bear Workshop animal to Autism Speaks. With each tiny tee shirt purchased from Nathan's at Mall of America, you will receive a five dollar certificate toward the purchase of an animal at Build-A-Bear Workshop in the mall.

For a chance to make history and possibly participate in the Mall of America competition, hopefuls can submit their request for participation at www.nathansmoa.com or www.nathansfamous.com. Entrants must be 18 years of age and sign a waiver if selected.
